That said, if your car seat can’t fit or doesn’t double as a CRS device, you may want to look into using a CARES harness, This is an FAA-approved restraint. The straps and buckles of the harness work with the plane seatbelt to secure children between 22 and 44 pounds.
Eep in mind that this only works for aircraft; the CARES harness isn’t intended for use in cars. So, if you’ll still need a car seat at your destination, this might not be the most practical choice. Of course, you can still opt for a lap seat — if your airline allows. Age policies can vary somewhat from carrier to carrier, so check with the airline you’ll be using.
However, consider the benefits of having that extra seat. When I bought a seat for my 18-month-old, she napped the whole flight. Plus, the additional seat will give you extra space to store things, play, and stretch your legs.

Procedure – Infants appear in the name field of a PNR. Because of this, adding an infant to an already ticketed PNR is regarded as a name change. Name changes are not permitted in Amadeus once a PNR has been ticketed. If you try to add an infant in the normal way to a ticketed PNR, you will receive an error.

To add an infant to the PNR, follow these steps:
Contact the airline and check that they want you to make the change yourself in Amadeus. If so, also confirm that that they will authorize a full refund of the adult who will travel with the infant, and that this passenger can be rebooked at this original fare. If there is more than one passenger in the PNR, split (using SP entry) the adult you wish the infant to be associated with from the main PNR Contact the airline and confirm that you are able to refund the adult ticket at no charge, and rebook the adult and issue again on the original fare Refund (using TRF entry) the adult ticket, but do not cancel the seats Remove (using XE entry) the adult’s FA line from the PNR Please note that travel agents and help desks do not have the capability to remove the FA line: only airlines do. For non-Altéa users, the option is to let the airline take over the booking. Workaround: Travel agents could create a second booking with the adult names they want the infant to be associated to as a ghost or passive segment, and then issue the infant only in that second PNR. Note : Travel agents do not have the capabilities to remove the FA line (with XE entry). Only airlines (Altéa users only) can remove the FA element in the PNR.
