On Southwest Airlines What Is Wanna Get Away?

On Southwest Airlines What Is Wanna Get Away
How Southwest seating and boarding works – When you purchase Southwest’s Wanna Get Away fare, you won’t receive a seat assignment. Unlike other U.S. airlines, Southwest has an unconventional boarding system. There’s no assigned seating, and you can’t choose your seat in advance.

  1. Instead, travelers select their seats after boarding the plane.
  2. Your boarding group (A, B, C) and position (1-60) determine when you board the plane.
  3. Your boarding group and position are assigned at check-in, so the sooner you check in, the better position you get.
  4. You can check in for your flight starting 24 hours before departure time.

If you don’t like the idea of getting on the plane later, you might purchase a Business Select fare. With Business Select, you’ll be guaranteed an A1 to A15 boarding position. If Business Select is out of your budget, you might turn to Anytime, which gives you the slightly-less-good, but still useful, Early Bird Check-In.

What are the passenger seat specifications (seat width/pitch, etc.) on Southwest aircraft? The below chart lists key seat specifications on each Boeing 737 model we fly, including passenger capacity, average pitch*, and seat width. Our aircraft have one aisle and one single cabin with three seats on each side of the aircraft.

The first row of seats on each side is bulkhead seating.

Aircraft Passenger Capacity Average Seat Pitch* Narrowest Seat Width Widest Seat Width Movable Aisle Armrests Lavatories
Boeing 737-700 143 31″ 15.5″ 17.0″ All rows One forward and one rear
Boeing 737-800 Boeing 737-MAX 8 175 32″ 15.5″ 17.8″ All rows except bulkhead (front) One forward and two rear

As defined by our aircraft manufacturer, seat pitch is determined by measuring the distance from any point on a seat to the same point on the seat directly in front of it. Southwest offers Family Boarding, which occurs after the “A” group has boarded and before the “B” group begins boarding.

  • Up to two adults traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding.
  • If the child and adults are all holding “A” boarding passes, they should board in their assigned boarding position rather than waiting for Family Boarding.
  • Customers may choose, but are not required, to purchase, EarlyBird Check-In is an option giving you the convenience of automatic check-in before our traditional 24-hour check-in. While EarlyBird Check-In doesn’t guarantee an “A” boarding position, you’ll have the benefit of an earlier boarding position, a better opportunity to select your preferred available seat, and earlier access to overhead bins.

Do passengers with disabilities get to preboard? Preboarding is available for Customers who have a specific seating need to accommodate their disability and/or need assistance in boarding the aircraft or stowing an assistive device. If a Customer with a disability simply needs a little extra time to board, we will permit the Customer to board before Family Boarding, between the “A” and “B” groups.

Those Customers who need extra time to board will receive a new boarding pass with an extra time designation. The designation serves as notification to our Operations (boarding) Agent that the Customer should be permitted to board before Family Boarding. We will allow one travel companion to act as an “attendant” and preboard with a Customer with a disability.

In most cases, the Customer requires assistance from only one other person, and any additional family members or friends are asked to board with their assigned group. Customers should request preboarding from our Customer Service Agent at the ticket counter or departure gate.

  • Our Agents are trained to ask fact-finding questions to determine if the Customer meets the qualifications described above.
  • Those Customers who qualify for preboarding will receive a new boarding pass with a preboarding designation.
  • The designation serves as notification to our Operations (Boarding) Agent that the Customer should be permitted to preboard.

It’s important to keep in mind that Customers who preboard may not occupy an exit seat. Note: Customers who are preboarding because of a need for a specific seat onboard the aircraft should speak with the Operations (Boarding) Agent prior to the start of preboarding to alert the Agent to the seating need.

Do active-duty military members get to preboard? We invite active-duty members of the U.S. Military (with valid military I.D.) who did not receive an “A” boarding pass to board between the A and B groups. Can groups assigned to different boarding positions board together? Yes. However, in order to maintain the integrity of the boarding process, we ask that earlier boarding positions board with the later positions.

For example, if a passenger is assigned position A16 and wants to board with a passenger assigned position A45, the passenger holding the A16 boarding pass should board with the A45 passenger. : Boarding the Plane FAQ | Southwest Airlines

The stress, the confusion, the long hours waiting at the airport — it can be extremely frustrating and even cause you to miss out on pre-planned tours, events, and other time-sensitive engagements at your destination.

  1. Generally, you are eligible for flight delay compensation from Southwest Airlines if you are departing from an EU airport, and if you are delayed by more than 3 hours,
  2. Depending on the length of the delay and the distance traveled, you can get up to $700 in compensation,
  3. You are also entitled to receive care including free food, refreshments, and, during lengthier delays, a hotel room, as well as free transfers to and from the airport.

However, not all Southwest Airlines flight delays are eligible for compensation. One notable exception is in cases known as extraordinary circumstances, which include bad weather; as well as health, safety, or security threats; and airport personnel strikes and political unrest.

Why does Southwest not do assigned seating?

Southwest’s new CEO flags introducing allocated seating – As reported in Travel Weekly, Bob Jordan, due to take over the top job at Southwest Airlines next month, flagged dropping the unallocated seating practice at a town hall meeting held on Wednesday.

  1. Could we one day need to take back up the assigned-seating question? I think we may have to do that,” he said.
  2. Southwest Airlines has long argued that its unassigned seating policy is popular with passengers and facilitates speedier boarding.
  3. That means planes spend less time at the gate and more time in the air generating Southwest money.

Over the years, the airline has tinkered with the no-system boarding system. Around 15 years ago, Southwest began assigning boarding numbers within each boarding group, in the process better controlling the boarding process as more and more people took to the air. Where is the best place to sit Southwest?

The Best Seats for the Most Legroom – Everyone loves extra legroom on a flight and the good news is that Southwest offers more legroom than most other domestic carriers. However, if you’re really tall, that still might not cut it. Sure, there’s more legroom in the bulkhead and exit rows, but there are 1 or 2 coveted seats on every Southwest flight that you’ll really want to find.

There is a window seat behind the exit row that doesn’t have any seat in front of it, giving you a ridiculous amount of legroom, It’ll be seat 12A on the Boeing 737-700, seats 16A and 16F on the Boeing 737-800, and seats 16A and 16F on the Boeing 737 MAX 8. You need some luck to get this seat. Your chances are determined by your boarding position and the number of Business Select passengers ahead of you.

Business Select passengers tend to be seasoned business travelers who know about this seat. My husband, who is 6 foot 6 inches tall, always looks for this coveted seat right behind the exit row door. The carrier announced a new fare class on March 24, dubbed “Wanna Get Away Plus,” offering a fourth option in its fare system just above the discounted — and relatively restrictive — ” Wanna Get Away ” fare. (Photo by David Slotnick/The Points Guy) Southwest has repeatedly teased the new fare to investors during earnings calls and presentations over the past several months, framing it as a way to upsell some customers who would otherwise purchase Wanna Get Away fares, attracting them with the option of greater flexibility without taking anything away from the basic fare.

  1. We’re not taking anything away,” Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Watterson reiterated during Wednesday’s briefing.
  2. The airline industry, in our perspective, is a repeat purchase business,” Waterson added.
  3. A positive experience with a quality product brings customers back.” During the briefing, airline executives declined to share pricing details, citing financial regulatory restrictions, although they did suggest that the upper-level fares would not increase, meaning that the new fare would fall somewhere in between current price levels for Wanna Get Away and Anytime.

The executives did, however, point to guidance issued to investors in December, when they first teased the new fare product. They said that the airline was targeting a $1.5 billion revenue boost in 2023 driven by a set of initiatives, including the new fare class as well as improved distribution to business travelers, a renewed co-branded credit card deal with Chase and enhanced revenue management practices.
