The waitress was kind enough to let me order and recommended the conch fritters and the snapper which I gladly gobbled up.

The food in the Bahamas is mostly seafood as you would imagine and it’s so delicious. There wasn’t a meal I didn’t like on my vacation and the people made the food that much better! My last day on Great Exuma was spent eating at the hotel restaurant and taking in the views of the most gorgeous water I’ve ever seen.

I’ve traveled to quite a few places but I was surprisingly really sad leaving the Exumas.

Something about the island made me feel at home and comfortable and I really didn’t want to leave.
The Exumas are a truly magical place and worth the visit.
Most people will stay on Nassau which is the most touristy place in the Bahamas and only take a day trip to the Exumas but try to carve out at least three days to spend in the Exumas and then you can island hop around.

There’s so much to see and do in the Exumas that one day just doesn’t do it justice! Yes, the swimming pigs are really cool and cute but there’s way more to the Exumas than that. Three Americans who were found dead under mysterious circumstances at a resort in the Bahamas in May died of carbon monoxide poisoning, the authorities said.
“At this juncture of the investigation, we can officially confirm that all three of the victims died as a result of asphyxiation due to carbon monoxide poisoning,” the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement on Tuesday.
The deaths had stumped investigators who were summoned to the Sandals resort on Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas on May 6 after a staff member found one of the tourists, a man, unresponsive in his villa, the police said.

The authorities were then told that two more people, a man and a woman, had been found unresponsive in another villa. A doctor pronounced all three of them dead, the police said. A fourth American, a woman, was airlifted to a hospital in Florida and survived.

Officials said they did not suspect foul play.
At least two of the victims had suffered convulsions but did not show signs of trauma, the police said at the time.

The Bahamian authorities ordered autopsies on the victims and sent samples from the villas to a laboratory in Philadelphia to determine if “any contaminants are present,” Commissioner Paul A.

Rolle of the Royal Bahamas Police Force said at the time. The woman who survived, Donnis Chiarella, 65, was flown to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami in fair condition, Jennifer Guerrieri, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said last month. Ms. Chiarella was released on May 13.

The authorities did not say what the source of the carbon monoxide was, saying the matter was the subject of an “active investigation.”

In a statement on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for Sandals Resorts said that the company had “fully supported the investigation into this event to ensure we are doing everything possible to learn from it.”
The deaths, she said, were “an isolated incident” that took place in a structure housing two individual guest rooms.

She said that the resort had placed carbon monoxide detectors in all of its guest rooms and that “detectors will be installed in all guest rooms throughout the portfolio.” Sandals operates 16 resorts, including two in the Bahamas. “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests and team members is and will always be paramount,” she added.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas produced by combustion, including the burning of gasoline, kerosene, diesel, natural gas or other fuels in a motor or generator. Police in the are investigating the death of an American tourist in a resort located on the same island where three people died of carbon monoxide poisoning in May.
On Tuesday, the unidentified 70-year-old American tourist was found dead in an Exuma resort, the Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed to CBS News.

Police said that the man complained of shortness of breath on Saturday and then subsequently tested positive for COVID and was instructed to quarantine in his room before dying.

A Royal Bahamas Police Force spokesperson would not confirm which Exuma resort the man died in.
The 70-year-old’s body is set to be flown to Nassau within the next day where authorities will conduct an autopsy to determine his cause of death, police said.

The death comes months after three staying at a Sandals resort on the Bahamas’ Great Exuma island were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning, reported.

On May 6, Michael and Robbie Phillips from Tennessee and Vincent Chiarella from Florida were found dead inside their villas at the Sandals Emerald Bay Resort. Chiarella’s wife, Donnis, also fell ill and was airlifted to a Florida hospital where she recovered.

Following the deaths, Sandals Resort announced that it would install carbon monoxide detectors in all rooms at the Sandals Emerald Bay Resort.

Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is and will always be paramount.
It is for this reason that we have taken additional measures such as engaging environmental safety experts for a comprehensive review of all systems across the resort,” the company said in a statement.
