The terminal features four long segments of moving walkways on the departures level and another moving walkway on the lower level, for international arriving passengers to access the Federal Inspection Services area. The North Terminal houses two six-lane security checkpoints. The terminal also has U.S. Customs & Border Protection inspection facilities located on the lower level for arriving international flights. DETROIT (March 14, 2022) – Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport’s (DTW) North Terminal will be renamed the Warren Cleage Evans Terminal on Monday, April 4, 2022. The dedication ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the ticket lobby on the Departures Level.
The ceremony is open to invited guests and the news media. A reception will be held in the evening. In June 2021, the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) Board of Directors voted to rename the North Terminal in honor of Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. The terminal opened in 2008 to offer customers another world-class option at DTW and allowed for the retirement of the Smith and Berry terminals as passenger facilities.
The North Terminal was named after its location on the DTW campus. “This is truly an honor, and I would like to thank everyone who made this possible,” said Wayne County Executive Evans. “I have dedicated my life to public service, and I have always believed that you don’t get into this line of work for the awards or recognition.
Public service is about serving the public. But I must say that it does feel good to know that others appreciate what I have been trying to do for all these years.” Over the next few weeks, the Airport Authority will modify signage throughout DTW, including the roadways. “Dozens of signs need to be changed; therefore, we must start early,” said WCAA Chief Executive Officer Chad Newton.
“This means there may be times when signs reflect the new name, while other signs do not. We’ll do our best to inform our customers of this change and we appreciate their patience during this transition period.” A special sign honoring Executive Evans will be unveiled during the dedication ceremony.

DTW Airport Final Thoughts – I really like the DTW Airport. It’s big, open, and easy to navigate. Short connections in DTW don’t scare me, in fact I embrace them. It’s a great way to shave time of a trip. If you do have a long layover, there are lots of restaurants to enjoy.
- The lounges here are all Skyclubs so if you have access it’s great, if you don’t it’s not the best place for a long layover.
- For most people a 45-60 minute layover will feel very comfortable on a domestic layover.
- Enough time to be comfortable but not so much that you’re board.
- DTW is a great place for a connection.
The light show tunnel is a really fun feature. It’s obviously not a great way to kill time, but it’s unique and I enjoy it. The Westin Hotel is a great hotel and so easy to access from the terminal. All in, I love connecting in Detroit, it’s my favorite domestic airport.
