Should any such device be fitted with the vehicle the SEAT UK warranty will be invalidated and no warranty claim will be covered by the terms of this warranty. The warranty is automatically transferred to any new owner, subject to the same terms and conditions.

  • The repair or replacement+ of defective parts according to technical requirements determined by the Manufacturer.
  • The repair of any consequential damage to standard components caused by a manufacturing defect.
  • The labour costs of removing and installing parts for warranty repairs at any SEAT Retailer. You may be charged, at the SEAT Retailer’s discretion, for any extra work caused by modifications to your vehicle, such as removal and refitting of a tow-bar that has been fitted after manufacture.
  • Your warranty applies to the base vehicle only. It does not cover any special fittings, conversions or additional bodywork.

Any defect must be reported to a SEAT Retailer as soon as it is discovered.       Is there a lifetime warranty on seat belts?

      Mr. William McAlister McAlister Electronics Service Center 926 E. Fremont Avenue Sunnyvale, CA 94087 Dear Mr. McAlister: This responds to your letter requesting information regarding Federal regulations that govern seat belts in vehicles. You ask if vehicle manufacturers are required to provide a “lifetime” warranty for seat belts and seat belt assemblies and, if such a warranty is required, the procedures that would be employed to enforce that warranty.

      Federal law authorizes the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue motor vehicle safety standards that apply to the manufacture and sale of new motor vehicles and new items of motor vehicle equipment. NHTSA has exercised that authority and established Standard No.208, Occupant crash protection (49 CFR 571.208), which requires safety belts to be installed at certain seating positions in new motor vehicles.

      In addition, Standard No.209, Seat belt assemblies (49 CFR 571.209), contains minimum performance requirements for seat belt assemblies installed in new vehicles and sold as “aftermarket” equipment, and Standard No.210 (49 CFR 571.210), Seat belt assembly anchorages, sets minimum standards for anchorage location and performance.

      Each new vehicle must comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards, including the requirements in Standards No.208, 209 and 210. Federal law does not, however, require vehicles to comply with these standards after the first purchase for purposes other than resale. None of the regulations or statutes administered by NHTSA require manufacturers to provide a lifetime warranty for seat belts.

      However, NHTSA has the authority to require manufacturers to replace seat belts under certain circumstances. If a vehicle or item of equipment is not more than ten years old and is determined to have a safety-related defect or fails to meet an applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standard, NHTSA can compel the manufacturer to remedy the defect or noncompliance without charge to the vehicle owner.

      1. Your letter indicates that the automatic belt assemblies on your 1990 Ferrari Testarossa have ceased to function.
      2. A search of our recall database indicates that NHTSA or Ferrari have not determined that the automatic belt system of the 1990 Testarossa contains a safety-related defect.
      3. In the absence of such a determination, Ferrari is not required to repair or replace the belts by the statutes and regulations administered by NHTSA.

      Does replacing seats void warranty?

      Many consumers mistakenly believe that they must use manufacturer-approved parts so as not to void their warranty. The manufacturers might want you to believe this but nothing is further from the truth. Aftermarket replacement parts will not void your new car’s warranty.

      However, modifying or tuning your car might run afoul of your car’s warranty coverage. Here’s what you need to know. Warranties on consumer products are governed in the U.S. by a Federal statute known as the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. This Act spells out what warrantors can and cannot do in connection with the warranties they provide with their products.

      While the Act applies to everything from lawn mowers to dish washers, the place it has the most impact on the average American is with the warranty that comes with a new car. And the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act specifically forbids manufacturers from forcing consumers to use name brand parts on their vehicles.

      The Act is quite clear on this : No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer’s using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name,

      Notice that the manufacturer can require the use of its parts when it is providing them to you free of charge. The Act also allows a manufacturer to apply for an exemption if it can prove that its own brand part is necessary. This is rarely the case. Still, I get asked from time-to-time if my interpretation of this section is correct.

      1. Don’t ask me; let’s see what the Federal Trade Commission says.
      2. The Act specifically empowers the FTC to interpret the application of the Act and on its own website the FTC has a section addressing auto warranties.
      3. In response to the question, “Do I have to use the dealer for repairs and maintenance to keep my warranty in effect?” the FTC replies: No.

      An independent mechanic, a retail chain shop, or even you yourself can do routine maintenance and repairs on your vehicle. In fact, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which is enforced by the FTC, makes it illegal for manufacturers or dealers to claim that your warranty is void or to deny coverage under your warranty simply because someone other than the dealer did the work.

      1. The manufacturer or dealer can, however, require consumers to use select repair facilities if the repair services are provided to consumers free of charge under the warranty.
      2. The question that comes next is, what about someone who has tuned or modified their car with aftermarket high-performance parts? Can the manufacturer deny my warranty coverage for something like that? Yes, they can.

      Of course, it depends on the modification and what the failure was. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act says the manufacturer cannot force you to use their parts but they also do not have to pay for warranty repairs caused by someone else’s part. Or, if your part caused something else to fail.

      The second, and most important, part of your warranty is the powertrain coverage. That’s because this part pays for engine and transmission repairs which could run to several thousand dollars. Under federal law, manufacturers must provide an eight year/80,000 mile warranty for defects in catalytic converters and other components of the emissions control system.

      1. If your amber check-engine light comes on, you probably have an emissions control problem covered by your warranty.
      2. Dealer service departments may be uncertain about this one.
      3. Roadside assistance for breakdowns (once a feature only of luxury brands) has now been added to most warranties, too.
      4. Warranties also contain rust protection coverage in case a body panel rusts through, though that’s a rare occurrence in today’s new cars.

      If you buy a car with solid basic and powertrain warranties, you can happily avoid expensive extended warranties that many new-car dealers will try to sell you for added profit.
