The Renault Grand Scenic is a spacious seven-seater that could be your ideal MPV if how a car looks is just as important as how easy it is to live with. The VW also has a bigger boot than the Renault Grand Scenic, but both are huge once you fold all the back seats down. Even with the boot filled to the brim, the Renault Grand Scenic’s engines have enough poke to pull you along quite happily.

The diesel version’s nice and quiet on motorways and is impressively economical. If you do lots of short journeys, especially in town, the petrol engine’s a better bet. The Renault Grand Scenic’s big windows and raised driving position also help make it feel at home in cities.

The steering’s nice and light to help you manoeuvre it easily and you get parking sensors as standard, but the Renault’s huge wheels highlight bumps and potholes more than the smaller wheels you get on the VW and SEAT.

That being said, the Renault Grand Scenic’s still pretty relaxing to drive – especially if you pay extra for the optional automatic gearbox.

It’s not the smoothest unit around but it saves you from having to constantly change gear in heavy traffic. It also comes with automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning which help make the Renault Grand Scenic one of the safest MPVs on sale and certainly worth considering if you’re on the hunt for a safe and stylish family car.

This car is spacious, comfortable, reliable, economic and a great drive. It makes you feel on top of the world as you sit raised above many of the other cars on the road. It is fantastic for children and has a 5 star safety rating.

Can you sleep in a Renault Scenic?

Our MPV gets put through its paces on a family holiday – and passes with flying colours. – Our Renault Scenic is Grand by name, and grand by nature! No matter how often I use it, I’m always amazed at just how much space the MPV provides for such a compact machine.

It feels no bigger than a Volkswagen Golf to drive, but then I look over my shoulder and realise how much it can carry.

Whether I’m ferrying rear passengers or have folded down the seats, it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it.
Even modern estate cars can’t get close to the space on offer, as the Renault’s taller body lets it swallow large objects with ease.

This fact was brought home to me recently, as I’ve had some moving to do – and was able to vastly reduce the number of trips needed by getting so much stuff into the car on each journey. As the middle row of seats doesn’t fold flat, loading long items can be more difficult.

My family and I drove the Renault to Cornwall for a holiday, and the five-hour journey each way didn’t cause us any discomfort.

Child- friendly features such as integral sunblinds in the rear doors also ensured that our two little girls could sleep in the back despite the glare of the day. And once they’d woken up, they could enjoy the extra light provided by the car’s huge rear sunroof.

The Scenic proved the perfect holiday companion; small enough to thread down narrow country lanes and tall enough to provide decent visibility on the unfamiliar and twisty roads.

And the TomTom sat-nav’s handy postcode entry made it easy to find our way: we realised how useful this is while travelling in convoy with a friend.

I was leading the way as we approached a roundabout to turn right, but our mate was intent on swinging left. Assuming he knew where he was going, we followed him for a couple of miles before he stopped in a small country lane looking lost. It turns out his route-finder didn’t have postcode entry and had directed him to another road of the same name! Rounding off a fantastic week was our fuel consumption, revealed when I brimmed the tank at the end of our trip.

What is the difference between a Grand Scenic and a Scenic?

Design – It’s clear the new Scenic is part of the latest wave of Renault models, with strong influences from the Kadjar SUV, including a similar front end with a bold diamond badge set into the grille and sleek lights with LEDs, while the swooping roofline, curvy windowline and gloss-black trim pieces along the bottom of the doors are reminiscent of the Captur crossover.

Why is Renault struggling?

PARIS, April 22 (Reuters) – Renault’s sales fell for a fifth straight quarter as the French carmaker struggled to shrug off the fallout from the pandemic without a major presence in booming Chinese markets and a global shortage of electronic chips hit production.
Under Chief Executive Officer Luca de Meo, who took the reins last July, Renault is looking to produce fewer cars and focus on those with higher margins, a strategy that is starting to bear some fruit.
The company got a boost from rising vehicle prices in January-March, for the third consecutive quarter.

But this was not enough to offset the hit from shrinking inventories and other headwinds like unfavourable foreign exchange effects, and overall revenue fell 1.1% to 10 billion euros ($12 billion) from a year earlier. Renault, which also makes Dacia and Lada cars and has a financing business, said sales were up 4.4% when stripping out currency and other effects.

Jefferies analysts said the results were lacklustre and underlying pricing trends where not very different from the rest of the industry.
Renault shares were down 2% at 0752 GMT.

Like rivals, Renault has been grappling with a global shortage in semiconductor chips, and the group said on Thursday the problem could persist until the third quarter, although it expects an improvement by the end of the year.
Car production fell by tens of thousands of vehicles in the first quarter as a result of the shortage, finance chief Clotilde Delbos told analysts.
Renault, which is cutting costs to try to stem losses, has not benefitted like rivals such as Daimler and Volkswagen from a rebounding car market in China.

South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co, meanwhile, posted its highest first-quarter profit in four years thanks to sales of luxury cars, another weaker area for Renault.
Renault last year quit its main passenger car business in China due to weak sales there, and is more dependent on its core European market, where some lockdowns to tackle the pandemic are still in place.
“We’re still far from being in a normal situation,” Delbos told a conference call, adding the group preferred not to give financial guidance due to the uncertain environment.

Renault was left reeling in late 2018 by a scandal surrounding its former boss-turned-fugitive Carlos Ghosn, who forged the carmaker’s alliance with Japan’s Nissan – a partnership the two are now trying to get back on track.
They are grappling with rising competition in the market for electric cars, an area where Renault had an early lead but bigger rival Volkswagen is now making huge strides.
Delbos said electric and hybrid car models were likely to reach up to 15% of group sales in 2021, up from 10% last year.
